Back to basics: What is sustainability?

Sustainability is the practice of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is about balancing social, economic, and environmental concerns in a way that allows people to live fulfilling, healthy lives now and in the future.

There are three main pillars of sustainability:

🕯️ Environmental sustainability: This refers to the practice of using natural resources in a way that does not deplete them or damage the natural environment. It involves finding ways to preserve the earth's ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural resources for future generations.

🕯️ Social sustainability: This involves creating a society that is inclusive, equitable, and just, with opportunities for all people to participate and thrive. It involves promoting human rights, fair labor practices, and social welfare.

🕯️ Economic sustainability: This involves using economic resources efficiently and in a way that promotes long-term growth and prosperity. It involves finding ways to create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and support businesses while also considering the social and environmental impacts of economic development.
